Triada Samaras Painting Exhibition James Howe Gallery Kean University

I took this panorama of my exhibition at the James Howe Gallery at Kean University Fine Arts yesterday. I also spent time chatting with fellow artist and adjunct professor Ray Horner. It's always so great to chat with a fellow artist but especially with a painter! Ray and I talked PAINT! My favorite subject of all time . 🙂

Artworks by Yasmeen Abdallah and Triada Samaras Summer/Fall 2024

James Howe Gallery is proud to present an exhibition titled, “Transcending Bodies”:

Installations by Yasmeen Abdallah and paintings by Triada Samaras.

The exhibition is on display from Sunday, July 28 through Friday, September 6, 2024. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 3-6 pm at the gallery.  All are welcome to attend.

“Transcending Bodies” features recent works by Yasmeen Abdallah and Triada Samaras, who are both Adjunct Faculty in the Fine Arts Department at Kean University.

Triada Samaras is an interdisciplinary artist whose work has been featured in numerous national and international exhibitions and venues. Samaras is a New England born, Greek-American who has family members living on both sides of the Atlantic. She has lived and worked in Brooklyn, New York for many years. For over 15 years, Samaras has been exploring the themes of identity, body, house/home, voice, and geography in her work, often in art activist contexts. The exhibition “Transcending Bodies” also features her paintings on the theme of Long Covid.

Yasmeen Abdallah is an interdisciplinary artist, working across intersections of sculpture, textiles, painting, and social engagement. Drawing from the personal and the political through elements of memory, empowerment, trauma, resilience, and persistence, her work takes shape in various capacities from minimal gestures to maximal installations. This work is inspired by contemporary culture, history, space, place and personhood. She is interested in the stories told, and secrets kept by imprints and objects that speak to our contemporary culture.

Triada Samaras Paintings Exhibition James Howe Gallery Kean University

Even as the old work gets hung on the wall in my Kean University Fine Arts exhibition my new work is already lying around in small piles around the studio.

It helps so much to see the progression from old to new.
Unfortunately the cell phone photo I took of this watercolor is not doing it any justice however its the only photo I have for now...
In reality it is MUCH bluer!

Triada Samaras Paintings Exhibition Kean University

Having my exhibition at Kean University has given me a perspective on my work over time that is really valuable to me as an artist.

I had forgotten how I love to use words especially poetry in some of my larger works. Some smaller one as well. And I forgot how freeing it is to work larger! Damn! So I am experimenting with this canvas which is my largest to date (since I became ill). It is 3 feet by 4 feet and acrylic...it balances on my easel but precariously I must say. And Eureka! to using my whole arm to paint! once in a while!

Triada Samaras New Work

Even as the old work gets hung on the wall in an exhibition the new work is already lying around in small piles around the studio.

It helps so much to see the progression from old to new.

Where am I going now?  I never know but when the work is all together it looks like I made it cohesive on purpose.

Really any cohesion is a total accident as I never quite know what I am doing with paint.  It rules me not the other way around.
