What is an inter/trans-disciplinary artist? One who leaps from here to there and back again. One who can always see the big picture. One for whom the world is equally compelling and revolting, revealing and concealing. One who sees the personal and political, creative, social and environmental as often one, and for whom a single medium and point of view is never enough. Triada Samaras www.triadasamaras.com

Photographs from 'From NY and NJ and Back' Photographic Series
This is one of my first cell phone photos taken a few years ago.
I remember I was on the NYC 'train nervously trying to figure out 'what I was doing'. I finally snapped the button and saw this image. In an instant I realized I did not care what I was doing anymore. Because I just wanted to be doing it. A lot of my art life has been that way in fact.

Photographs from 'From NY and NJ and Back' Photographic Series
This is an image taken of the semi-demolished Paterson Armory in New Jersey
across the street from one of the schools where I work as an Art
Professor in Residence for William Paterson Univeristy. It is a rather
fantastic relic. The city wants to save
this piece seen in the b &w photo. Not sure what for yet.....
Another day in the Paterson NJ Public Schools.
Another
day in the Paterson NJ Public Schools. This is middle school. The art
teacher, Ms. Aimee Senopole did an amazing job getting these students to
open up about themselves, using very inexpensive materials. I am
inspired by these students; I really am. Paterson, NJ is a rough place
to live. And public schools for these students often shine like beacons
in some very rough areas with so little else going for them. Am I trying
to say public school is important? Yes I am. I am saying it is
CRITICAL. Use your imagination here. And is art education important? You
be the judge.
